The Valley Hospital Stroke Center

Seconds count when stroke symptoms appear. At The Valley Hospital Stroke Center, we're prepared at a second's notice to treat complex strokes and offer stroke interventions such as IV tPA,IA tPA, and MERCI and Penumbra devices to retrieve blood clots and coiling/clipping procedures to repair brain aneurysms.

Our Stroke Center is the first in the tri-state area and 16th in the U.S. to be designated a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, our nation's leading organization for the accreditation of hospitals and health care organizations. We were also first in New Jersey to receive The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for stroke care (2004). Today, we continue to hold this distinction, also known as Disease Specific Certification.

Also designated a Comprehensive Stroke Center by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, The Valley Hospital Stroke Center leads the area in state-of-the-art technology, cutting-edge treatment options, and neurological and neurosurgical expertise. Our stroke care comprises diagnostic testing, treatment, rehabilitation, support, prevention, education, and research. Our experienced stroke team diagnoses and treats stroke symptoms swiftly and aggressively.

Diagnostic capabilities include carotid ultrasound, transcranial doppler (TCD), MRI and MRA of the brain, CTA of the brain and carotids, and a portable CT scanner.
