Do not eat or drink anything after midnight, unless specifically instructed otherwise. This includes water, ice, candy, mints and gum. Your surgery will be canceled if this instruction is not followed. You may want to stock your refrigerator with extra fluids and ready-to-eat foods for your convenience while you recover at home. Day of Surgery
Do not eat or drink anything (including water, ice, candy, mints and gum) and do not smoke.
You can take the following medications: heart, asthma, blood pressure, seizure, transplant or thyroid medications with a small sip of water. Please bring any inhalers with you. Please check with your surgeon and primary care physician before taking any other medications on the day of surgery.
Do not take any diuretics (water pills), vitamins, supplements or herbal preparations the morning of surgery unless specifically instructed to do so by your surgeon. If you have diabetes, please speak with your primary care physician regarding your diabetic medication for the day of surgery.
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. Do not wear any jewelry to the hospital.
You must have a responsible adult drive you home after your procedure. Failure to have a support person drive you home will result in cancellation of your procedure.
Please arrive on time for all appointments.
Please bring your insurance card, prescription card and photo identification on the day of your surgery.
If you have an Advance Directive for Healthcare or a Living Will, bring a copy of it on your day of admission.
