How Are You Doing With That New Year’s Resolution?
By: Andrea Anfuso-Sisto, RD
Did you join a gym? Swear off sweets and fast food?
Many people overindulge over the holidays and pick New Year’s Day as their start date for a “healthier start”. However, we often set too general a goal and do not hold ourselves accountable to any measurable goal, which leaves us falling off by March.
If you try to set small measurable goals, perhaps you will be more successful reaching your goals.
Try reaching for one (or 2) these:
Increase your vegetable intake: 3-5 servings per day (i.e., 1 cup raw, ½ cup cooked).
Eliminate soda and sugary drinks from your day.
Exercise: start with 15 minutes of aerobic activity at a time. You should reach for 30 minutes on most days (at least 5 days a week).
Fad diets will leave you feeling unsatisfied and often do not provide all of the needed nutrients for a balanced nutrition plan.
