The Adult Epilepsy Monitoring Program at The Valley Hospital provides diagnostic services and therapeutic possibilities for patients suffering from this disorder. Patients may be studied intensively over a period of days to diagnose seizures, discern seizure type and, as a result, design or make appropriate adjustments in treatment.

The program is provided on the fourth floor of the Cheel Wing in the hospital’s Neurology Unit.

Valley Neurologist John Nasr, M.D., serves as Director of the Adult Epilepsy Monitoring Program and as Co-Director of Valley’s comprehensive Adult and Pediatric Epilepsy Center, along with Pediatric Neurologist, Jennifer Cope, M.D.

Dr. Nasr received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut. He completed his Residency in Neurology at University Hospital at Stony Brook and his Fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at University Hospital at Stony Brook. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and holds Added Qualifications in Clinical Neurophysiology.

Dr. Cope received her medical degree from State University of New York, Health Science Center at Brooklyn, in Brooklyn, New York. She completed a Residency in Pediatrics at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and a residency in Pediatric Neurology at Mount Sinai Medical Center. She completed a Fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at New York University Medical Center. Dr. Cope is considered board eligible for the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with Special Qualifications in Child Neurology.

According to information obtained from The Epilepsy Association, "Epilepsy is perhaps the most universal disorder. There are no geographical, racial or social class boundaries. Anyone can be affected by seizures. Epilepsy can occur in both sexes of any age, especially infancy, childhood, adolescence and old age."
