Valley treats more patients with cardiac illness from Bergen and Passaic counties than any other hospital in the region. Valley offers a full range of diagnostic and interventional treatment options including open-heart surgery for bypass and valve replacement and repair. Patients coming to Valley for surgical procedures may come from as far north as upstate New York and, in some cases, as far south as Florida.
Other cardiac treatments include cardiac catheterization and diagnostic services such as echocardiography, electrocardiography and exercise stress testing. Interventional cardiology procedures conducted in the hospital’s high-risk cardiac catheterization laboratory include coronary angioplasty, coronary stents and intravascular ultrasound. Patients who have undergone procedures at Valley may also receive cardiac nursing and education in their home.
New cardiac services include the addition of:
- A clinical trials program offering both non- and interventional cardiology treatments
- A stroke center designed to provide aggressive pre- and postacute treatment for stroke
- A home care telemonitoring program for congestive heart failure patients
- Robotic technology that assists surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgery
The hospital’s cardiac services team includes more than 100 physicians, a highly skilled nursing team (including nurse practitioners and home care cardiac clinicians) and the services of nurse community educators who assist in inpatient and outpatient education and teaching.
